Guide to Responding to the Non-Filers Monitoring System (NMS) Email

Identifying Non-Filers: The Income Tax Department uses NMS to find those earning over ₹2,50,000 annually who haven't filed returns, using data from sources like AIR, CIB, and TDS Statements. Receiving Notification: Non-compliance emails are sent automatically. Notifications also arrive via SMS and email yearly.

How to Respond: Visit the Income Tax Portal. Log in to your account. Go to 'Compliance' and click 'View and Submit Compliance'. Submitting Compliance: Select the assessment year where return was not received. Choose either: ITR has been filed (provide mode, date, and acknowledgment number), or ITR has not been filed (choose a reason like no taxable income or business closed).

Detailed Information: Review the 'Related Information Summary'. Select relevant options for each transaction listed. Options for Transaction Info: Investment from exempt income, Investment from savings, Investment from gifts/loans, Income below taxable limit, Income from a different assessment year, etc.

Final Step: After submission, download 'Response.pdf' for future reference.
