GST Amendments: Focus on Electrically Operated Vehicles

Central Government amends notification 1/2017-Central Tax (Rate) under CGST Act, 2017. Changes recommended by the Council to accommodate electrically operated vehicles.

Schedule-wise amendments include adjustments in tax rates for various items.

Notable additions: inclusion of charger or charging station for Electrically operated vehicles.

Electrically operated vehicles, including E-bicycles, now attract a 2.5% tax rate. Gunjan Kumar Verma, Under Secretary to the Government of India, issues the notification.

Effective from August 1, 2019, these amendments aim to promote eco-friendly transportation and support electric vehicle infrastructure development.
