SUMMARY OF ORDER NO. 08/2019-CENTRAL TAX

Order No. 08/2019-Central Tax has extended the due date for filing GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C for the financial year 2017-18 to 31st August 2019.

The extension has been granted to provide more time for taxpayers to file their returns accurately.

GSTR-9 is an annual return form that must be filed by regular taxpayers, while GSTR-9C is a reconciliation statement that must be filed by taxpayers with an annual turnover of over Rs. 2 crores.

The due date for filing GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C was originally 31st December 2018.

The extension of the due date is expected to benefit taxpayers who were facing difficulties in filing their returns due to technical glitches on the GST portal.

Taxpayers who fail to file their returns by the extended due date may be subject to penalties and interest.

The extension of the due date for filing GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C for the financial year 2017-18 is a welcome relief for taxpayers who were struggling to meet the original deadline.
