Tax Deduction for Agniveers under Section 80CCH

Empowering Youth: The Agnipath scheme aims to empower India's youth, helping them build a self-reliant and strong nation by joining the Armed Forces. Launch Date: This scheme was launched by the Indian Government on June 14, 2020, for individuals aged 17.5 to 21 years.

Service Opportunity: It offers a unique opportunity to serve in the Army, Navy, and Air Force for 4 years. Afterward, 25% of Agniveers can join the regular armed forces. SevaNidhi Benefit: After completing the 4-year service, Agniveers receive a SevaNidhi, a lump sum amount from the Agniveer Corpus Fund.

Contributions: Agniveers must contribute 30% of their monthly salary to the fund, matched by the central government. Section 80CCH Deduction: Under Section 80CCH of the Income Tax Act, Agniveers get tax deductions on contributions made to the Agniveer Corpus Fund by both the individual and the government.

Eligibility: Any Agniveer contributing to the fund on or after November 1, 2022, is eligible for this deduction. Effective Date: These tax benefits became effective on April 1, 2023, and apply to future assessment years.
