Tax Refunds for International Airport Retail Outlets

Retail outlets in international airport departure areas now eligible for tax refunds on inward supply of goods.

The Central Government, based on Council recommendations, specifies this class of persons for tax refund entitlement. Outgoing international tourists defined as individuals not normally residing in India for stays up to six months.

Refunds applicable to integrated tax paid on goods supplied to outgoing international tourists beyond immigration counters. Implementation effective from July 1, 2019, aimed at facilitating hassle-free shopping experiences for travelers.

Ruchi Bisht, Under Secretary to the Government of India, oversees the implementation of this beneficial tax refund scheme.

This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to promote tourism and enhance the overall airport experience.
